An Accessible Bathroom...Improved Quality of Life

We were contacted by the veteran home owner and his spouse. The veteran, due to medical conditions, could no longer access his bathtub and would soon be wheelchair bound and unable to access the bathroom at all due to the narrow doorway. The veteran was having difficulty rising from the toilet.

We developed a plan to widen the bathroom doorway and install an outswing door, giving the client the most space possible in the bathroom. We replaced the standard toilet/ raised toilet seat with a 20” handicapped height toilet as well as grab bars to assist in rising.  Finally, we removed the standard tub/shower and installed a walk-in shower with grab bars and hand-held shower.  To make the job complete, we replaced the worn linoleum with 12” tile.
